18 July 2020 -- Got the doors off!

Doors had never been off...it took a bit of work, and using floor jacks to push the door up and off the hinges


And then to put them back on two a couple (three?) weeks?

I ended up needing to use an old, small screwdriver as a chisel to cut out the old bushings. I had new Delrin bushings to install after the metal bushings were out...but...

I needed to use a wire brush on a Dremel to clean up the pins on the doors

And I had to order Dremel sanding drums to fit in the hinges to clean them enough for the new bushings.

Now that's all done, it takes just a couple minutes each to take the doors off or put them on, but many hours to get to that point :)

22 August 2020 Saturday ramblings

Going back to clean up C Road, Woodstock...well that's interesting, it clearly fell since in the last few weeks because I couldn't have driven under it!

That's an unusually long cellar hole! Usually when I see them in the woods they're square. I'm guessing this was a bit bigger house than many of the old abandoned ones were.

I'm scratching my head, I didn't take a picture last time I was down this road. Could've it possibly fallen and been open in between?

Ah, today's goal I found a couple weeks back...



Canada, eh? Almost made it. I could see the hay fields behind the house just before the state highway. I reckon I should come back with the 372XP to make quick work of this one.

Went home, did some chores, did a dump run. Too hot to bother doing yard work...let's go explore C Road, Plainfield. I've never been down here past the first slick rocks on the trail before.

Picture doesn't do it justice, and it wasn't much, but I didn't want to tackle this alone and/or without a winch. Maybe especially alone. Going this direction I don't think it's bad. Coming back, that bit on the right, looks like it would be tough to climb up -- a pretty significant step.

Plus I know from previous recon, the other side of the road is strong barricaded with stones (although from aerial photos I suspect you can go through the neighbor's driveway to bypass it if you were friends with them.)



No doubt about it being a legal trail :)

While I'm in the neighborhood, lets go down D Road...well shit that fell in the last six weeks

13 August 2020 -- Morning

So morning started at Sorel's at 8am to get the suspension checked. Verdict was shocks could be replaced, the steering stabilizer had some damage so was questionable, and the tie rod ends needed to be replaced before alignment. The rest of the suspension components seemed tight.


So decided to cruise a bit afterwards...let's try Axe Factory Road.











Well...shit.



C Road, Woodstock. I've only nosed down here before, heck mostly know about it due to a CT State Forest management plan that included that they wanted to put gates up on it (ten years ago...)































Well, shit again.






I was so close :D



I think these roads were open until circa 2005; I never was up them. But damn that looks in real good shape if it's not been used for 15 years.






This is from the north side of that same complex. Again, while the stones have been there for a while that road sure looks in good shape (and obvious motorcycle/ATV bypasses)








This should be the connector road (possibly Taylor Road) shown on some maps:

Let's try L Road in Sturbridge. Poked in from the north side before but it looked real rough -- which it would be in mud and water seasons. Would be real fun in a Jeep in those seasons.












North end, let's turn around!







Probably need a hitch rack to get the tires out...hmmmm


Stopped at Lapsley's on the way home and picked up some veggies for lunch :)
