Point Judith Redux

Rockville Mill on the way there. Beautiful, utterly impractical rehab -- 14 Section 8 apartments for the low sum of $298,000 each (Ok, plus a post office open four hours a day to pick up some of the rent.) There was a single car in the parking lot, checking Google it seems the well has failed and they lost Section 8 status so the project is in limbo at the moment. Well, continuing limbo since the original developer fled the country shortly after the project opened and the mortgage holder (a bank in Utah) has been keeping it running to avoid taking a bath on it.

Not sure why I didn't get EXIF data on the rest of these :/

Condo complex that had some lovely flowers...I may need an 8x12 frame since I'm not liking any of the 8x10 crops I try and I don't think a 4x6 print will do them justice.

Camp Cronin

Tamron 150-600 Tests

After reviewing yesterday's photos I wanted to play with various focal lengths & apertures.

So back to Camp Cronin at Point Judith for some tests :)

1)
So I think I need another set of tests at closer distance -- I suspect the 600mm length will exceed at stuff like close-ups of wildlife more than pulling in distant shots.

2)
I also need a heavier tripod to handle this lens. I left the "VC" image stabilization on because the camera was shaking quite a bit and I had to stabilize with my hand. A more secure tripod and remote trigger may have let me turn off the stabilization (since the camera *shouldn't* be shaking on a tripod at all) and gotten a bit sharper.

Checking the math: Camera 1.8#, Lens 4.65# = 6.45#

Label on my tripod: "3.3#" ...yep I'm a bit over specs :D,BR/>
Here are three shots at 600, 400, and 300 -- initially I was thinking the 300mm or 400mm shot cropped would be clearer than the 600mm shot, now I'm not sure. I almost want to kidnap Becky + Whats His Name to have them be models to work on this shot again :D

The end of the breakwater is about 650 meters from where I had the camera setup.

Point Judith

...plus I'm a little behind on some other photos taken recently (not many though).

So I had some balance transfer checks (which they don't allow to be used online, have to mail them :/), and it's my birthday. So I write the first, seal it in an envelope, start to write the date on the second, and I'm like, "Wait, what date did I write on the other? I wonder if they would honor it...eh, better just tear open the envelope and write a new check."

And this guy is trying to mooch my clam cakes or lobster roll...Camp Cronin, Point Judith. He actually started getting more "aggressive" and I rolled up my windows and he flew off to not return -- I seriously suspect he's a well trained beggar :D

Canon EOS 50D,0.00125 1/800, f/9, focal length 191, ISO 200

Not sure how I got this on f/9 instead of f/8...I was a little surprised by the blown out background. The gulls are about 10 meters away, the background break wall / beach probably 200 meters.
At my more common 50mm focal length the depth-of-field is 5.6 - 23m.
At 191mm the dof is 9.5 - 10.5m

Need to play with the "cannon" (not canon) lens some more to figure out what the best lengths / exposures are. Bit disappointed how un-sharp these are at 600mm but that might go with the territory, especially anything over 400mm from what I read last night.

One last daylilly...and the Brooklyn Town Hall

With all the deer damage, this is probably the last Daylilly of the year, down by the mailbox.

Canon EOS 50D,0.0125 1/80, f/6.3, focal length 87, ISO 100

Stopped at the Town Hall to drop off the check for taxes, decided to come back after work. Not sure I'm ecstatic with any of these...I think there is still something more here to pull out one day.
