House Rebuild Day 2

Not sure if I'll have the electrician do it, or leave it for a winter project -- but I wasn't leaving in the old outlet circuit in the living room after looking at it. And it turns out somewhere the overhead living room light circuit branches off it :/ So that's down too till the electrician installs the new circuit and recessed lights.

Knocked out the old boxes, so it'll be easy to install new "old work" boxes, and later I have pics of drilling through the sills for the new wire runs.

Still waiting for the material delivery...time to strip the back. Beautiful dry weather this week!

I got dispatched to Home Depot to pickup of 8 2x10x16 Pressure Treated to be used to rebuild the sills as needed, which we now have a good handle on the extent of replacement needed:

By the tine I got back, the material was being delivered:

New sills going on:

Wes made some calls and got a good deal on some mis-ordered Marvin windows...so they're reframing to fit the new windows:

Wires to be pulled back in the attic and replaced...I'll attach strings tomorrow.

So here's what I did with the old outlets -- drilled a hole through the sill so the wires won't run laterally through the walls. First hole on this one I hit something I couldn't get through. Second one worked. I put through a short piece of Romex to make sure it was clear, tied to it a string which will be used to pull up the new wires. I'll be much happier with this wiring, and it separates it from the lighting circuit.

Buttoning up for the day:

Dumpster Day #2:

Dafug! I'm going to cut out some unused stuff tomorrow...but I think I'll just tell Wes we'll have to cut the sheetrock out on the kitchen side and let the electrician go to town fixing this professionally. This was amateured up so badly I don't think another amateur can un-cluster-fuck-it.

I have moved large rocks. I have moved truck engines. I couldn't budge the shingles (was going to move them for better dumpster access).

House Rebuild Day 1 (and some before...)

Friday...cones are down for the dumpster.

Saturday and the fourth dumpster in the last twelve months arrives...

Might be the first building permit ever pulled for this property. Ever.

The Pod...don't ask me why I can't get the photo oriented right.

Blue Lake Builders have arrived!

Wes really wants those windows replaced!

Ok, again the orientation is wrong...but Papu sure liked to reuse the burnt lumber.

Shitters here!

And more burnt 2x3s -- not 2x4s, they're 2x3s that Papu shimmed to give a 3-1/2" space between the outer wall and sheetrock for the windows to fit right.

Wes & Bob attacking the end...much to their chagrin it was just one layer of stuff over another layer.

That's it for today. Materials should be delivered Tuesday morning.

Finally Firewooding!

My knee is finally letting me do some firewood...at most after a weekend of firewood and getting the house prepped for rebuilding it takes a day to recover unlike back in May and June where I would be down for a week.

Still have to take it slow and easy.

Figure first morning it took me 2-1/2 hours to go through a tank of gas in the saw. 1-1/2 the second time, and third time about an hour...but my log deck was getting filled up with wood and I need space!

August 27:

Labor Day Saturday:

Well hello there, do you know how to swing an ax?

Saturday 9/9 I did another chainsaw tank...and conceeded two things. One, I needed to get wood split and out of my way. Two, there was no way my stamina would come up quick enough for me to get this done in a timely using my splitting ax, while also supporting the house rebuilding project this fall. Time to go see Dubay's again...!@#%# he even remembers my last name now. "When can I pick it up?" "This afternoon." "I'll be back with my truck." Dale had the bill already written up when I got back. Same price as Home Depot, and I know this is fresh from then warehouse and didn't sit outside in the equipment pen with a flat tire all winter like I've seen at Home Depot. Ariens has good reviews online, and I liked the smaller size (since I can't justify spending the money on a really nice splitter like a Super Split). #IspendtoomcuhatDubays

So Monday afternoon...25 minutes to split:

15 minutes to stack (that surprised me)...but I know both will get faster as I build my stamina back up. Knee isn't even bothering me now as I type this.

I tape measured and applied a scientific wild ass guess of windage to figure this works out to 3' x 4' by 1.3' (16") or 15.6 c.f. or 1/8th cord.

PraegerU Confederacy and Communism Videos

Two very good videos:

And there is a strong connection between the two that becomes clear with Point #4 in this video -- that Germany took responsibility and made efforts to atone for the holocaust; in contrast to many who still refuse to acknowledge that slavery predicated on a belief in white supremacy was the cause of the Civil War and instead substitute in a mythic false narrative.

Ingraining the concept of white supremacy culturally justified the continuation and expansion of race-based slavery as previous forms such as enslaving conquered enemies or religious opponents fell out of favor and is necessary to understanding what still dogs us to this day in the U.S.

More Game of Thrones Goodness...

It's not that often I actually laugh out loud at a meme...especially one that is completely innocent except to fans of the show.
